Once An Eagle, Always An Eagle

This afternoon I went to the Cincinnati Masonic Temple (no dodgy handshakes I promise!), to see a friend receive his Eagle Scout badge.

Eagle Scout is the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouts of America boy scouting programme (it was introduced in 1911). A Scout who attains this rank is called an Eagle Scout or Eagle. The title of Eagle Scout is held for life, thus giving rise to the phrase "Once an Eagle, always an Eagle".

It was an honour to be invited to the ceremony.

Mike's Bubbles

Due to the extreme cold weather we've been having during the last few weeks, my car needed a good wash.

As I've never been in a car wash before, I decided to go to Mike's carwash. It reminded me of the Chessington World of Adventures' Bubbleworks ride!

Now That's Dedication - Up at 7am for a 11 mile run

After about 5 hours sleep last night, my alarm went off to remind me that I had a date with a group of Bob Roncker's runners. Yes, I'm taking my training for the Cincinnati "flying pig" marathon very seriously.

As was the case on Wednesday evening, the weather was pretty bad (sleet & hail) but it didn't stop over a 100 runners hit the streets.

I must admit, I'm really enjoying running with a group. I don't always have the energy to talk to others, but it's reassuring to feel part of a herd!!

My First Experence of an Ice Hockey Game

WOW! What a fantastic evening.

Last night I watched the Cincinnati "Cyclones" play the West Virgina "Wheeling Nailers" at the US Bank Arena, downtown Cincinnati.

My friends had booked front row seats, so I felt part of the action. It was absolutely thrilling... the speed of the game, the physical side (yes there were 4 fanastic bare knuckled fights!) and the mascot who decided to slide along the ice on his head!!

Unfortunately the "Cyclones" lost 6-3. I was told before the game that a certain type of person goes to ice hockey games... well all I can say is that 90% of the 4,861 crowd did fall within that stereotype (obviously not my friends and I)!
